Immunizations info for incoming 7th graders:
• Florida requires incoming 7th graders to have a Tdap booster on or after their 11th birthday.
• Proof of this booster is required on a certified form DH 680. This form can be obtained from your pediatrician or local health department once the Tdap booster is received.
• Students without updated shot records will not receive schedules during the 26/27 Open House.
Important info for Summer School/Course Recovery:
• If you have received a message (email or letter) concerning your child potentially attending Summer School, please sign and return them asap.
• Transportation for summer school is only provided the first week of June (6/1-6/5). Those students attending summer school need to find their own transportation for the remaining weeks of June or as long as it takes them to finish.
• Summer School Course Recovery Session Information:
o June 1st – June 5th, Mon- Fri, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM. Transportation provided
o June 8th – June 11th, Mon- Thur, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM. Transportation not provided.

Last Day!
Good evening, Avalon families.
While yesterday was the last day of spring End of Year State Assessments, we are still offering students' make-up sessions. While not all performance data is currently available, I am extremely proud of the results I have seen thus far. Now that FAST assessments and EOCs are behind us, it is time to focus on finishing the year strong. For some, this means focusing on raising grades as much as possible. If your child is at risk of failing, please work with your student and their teacher to bring their grade up as much as possible prior to Semester Exams. Semester Exams are 10% of your child's semester average, and 30% of their final grades in Civics, Algebra & Geometry.
If your child has brought home a Summer School letter, please fill this out and have them return it to their first period teacher as soon as possible so we can make necessary arrangements for transportation during summer school. Transportation for summer school is only provided during the week of June 1st through June 5th.
Also, we will have our accelerated math meeting, but it will not be tomorrow evening, May 14th. This meeting has been rescheduled for next Thursday, May 21st at 5:30 PM. Students who need to attend this meeting (with their parent) will be notified prior to leaving for this weekend.

We will be providing students with morning study hall in RM 611 on Friday, May 8th and Monday, May 11th @ 8:00am to work with science review materials in preparation for the 8th grade science EOC. We will have several teachers present to assist students.

Thank you for helping to prepare your students for end of year testing. Our kids are doing great so far, and I know they will continue to make us proud.
Avalon Middle School needs your help with a couple of other issues as well.
First: NeeDoh Toys (squishy toys) have become quite a disruption. In addition, students are busting them on purpose, which leads to vandalism/destruction of property concerns. Please remind your child that middle schoolers do not bring toys to school.
Second: Testing days are not Pajama Days. Pajamas are not acceptable school attire. If you have any questions as to whether your child may be out of dress code, please have them change into attire that is well within dress code guidelines (found in the SRC Code of Student Conduct and AMS Handbook).
It is the end of the school year, and everyone is ready for a break. Please help us to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students, as well as the learning environment of Avalon Middle School. If your child has received a summer school letter recently, please make sure they return them to their first period teacher. We will also schedule an accelerated math meeting next Thursday evening (5:30 PM) for those kids who will have the opportunity to accelerate in mathematics. These students and families will be notified before the end of this week.

It is time to Show What We Know & Prove What We Can Do! FAST Testing starts tomorrow with our 6th graders. I will include the upcoming assessment schedule below so you know what days your child takes certain exams. On the days your child tests, we challenge our students to wear their hallway colors. We challenge our Sixth Graders to wear green, our Seventh Graders to wear blue and our Eighth Graders to wear red on the days they take FAST or EOCs. At the end of these few days of testing, the winning grade level (grade level with the highest percentage participation) will be awarded.
